Edo State University, Uzairue has undergone a name change, reverting back to its original name, Edo University, Iyamho, following approval from Governor Monday Okpebholo.
This change comes four years after the university’s name was changed by Okpebholo’s predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, in 2020.

Obaseki’s decision to change the name to Edo State University, Uzairue was met with criticism from Adams Oshiomhole, the founder of the university.
Oshiomhole had vowed to reverse the name change, stating that “no man can change it” and that “everybody will write his own testimonial while on earth.”
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Umar Ikhilor, however confirmed that the name change takes immediate effect, and all documentation will reflect the new name.
This development marks a significant shift for the university, which was established in 2016 as Edo University, Iyamho, before being renamed Edo State University, Uzairue in 2020.
