Yaba Queens will begin their campaign against Saint Mirren Queens this evening in the  Gbagada Community Female Soccer Competition, while Adex Queens will face Determine Queens  in the second match of the day.

The match, which holds at the Gbagada Football pitch, promises to be explosive as the  teams will be looking for their first victory in the opening group match.

Speaking ahead of today’s cracker, coach of Yaba Queens, Patrick Amajor, boasted that his  opponents should not think of victory in the match because they  are in high spirits to  demolish them.

“I have absolute confidence in the ability of my players. They are in good frame of mind  to confront their opponents and I will not be surprised if we beat them with a wide  goal  margin. Our mission is to go far in this tournament,” he said.

Match coordinator, Kemac Emina, said the competition is solely put together by the  Gbagada Grassroots Sports Association. He said it is sad that nobody wants to sponsor  grassroots football again.

He blamed the corporate bodies and other sports philanthropists for failing to contribute  their own quota to sports development in Lagos State, adding that if the youths are not  empowered through sports, there is tendency that they will be involved in social vices.

‘Had it been we have sponsor for this competition, we would have increased the number of  the particpating teams to 16 instead of eight,’ he said.
