Lagos Beach Soccer Association is planning to organise Lagos State Secondary School Beach Soccer Cup next year
The competition will hold from 13 to 27 February at the Kuramo Beach, Victoria Island.
Chairman of the association, Dele Gbajumo, told PM Sports that the competition will encourage youths to show more interest in the sport.
He said Beach Soccer can be popularised like football and other sports if there is regular competition among the clubs, secondary school and tertiary institutions.
“We have decided to popularise the sport by organising Secondary School Beach Soccer. We want to see how successful it will be before organising Beach Soccer League among the Local Government, clubs and tertiary institutions in the state,â€Â said Gbajumo.
Gbajumo, who is not impressed with the slow progress that have been made to develop the sport in the state, said he will do his best to make sure Beach Soccer becomes number one sport in Lagos.
He said his association will work with Lagos State Football Association to discuss how the sport can be developed and promoted in the state.
He, therefore, called on corporate bodies to support the game at the grassroots level. He said if Nigeria Football Association, NFF, can concentrate more on Beach Soccer, Nigeria will rule the world.
“We are the best in Africa and if NFF show more interest in the sport by organising League, I’m sure, Nigeria will win FIFA Beach World Cup someday,†he said.
