The much awaited Chairman’s Cup seven A-aside football competition will hold on 17 March at Ile-Pako playground, Orile- Agege, Lagos.
Orile Agege council chairman, Mr Taofeek Adaranijo, is the sole sponsor of the competition which will last for three weeks.
The Chairman, Organising Committee of the tournament,Dele Gbajumo, said the tourney is being put together as part of the electoral promises made by the chairman who donated the cup for the tourney during his electioneering campaign. He said another reason for the tourney is to discover and bring new talents to the limelight.
“We want to use this competition to discover young talents that may represent the council in next year’s Lagos Speaker’s Cup and other future soccer competitions” he said.
Gbajumo said no fewer than 10 clubs have registered for the tournament, adding that the registration forms are still available for the clubs that are interested in the championship.
He explained that all participating clubs will be given certificates of participation and consolatory prizes apart from the prize money the finalists will get at the closing ceremony.
“It is going to be a glamorous tourney because the sponsor has promised to give the champion an undisclosed amount of money and other gifts for outstanding players of the tournament at the closing ceremony” he said.
