With the second Oando/Apapa Club Tennis tounament stroking to a close last weekend, the club is ending 2010 on a high with lots of activities.
Just at the time that stakeholders in various sports are reviewing their activities for the year, President of the club, Yusuf Mohammed, looked back and expressed happiness that his group has a reason to celebrate.
“The outgoing year has been eventful in the development of our club. I remember that the facilities in the club were dilapidated, but our executive committee began a massive renovation exercise last year. The facilities are now better  and competitions are staged on them to keep the members in shape,â€Â Yusuf said.
Apart from the second Oando/Apapa Club Tennis tounament held at the newly refurbished tennis courts of the club, the 19th Quadrangular Games were also hosted at the venue, where medals were won in sports like darts, table tennis, swimming and squash.
The snooker section of the club is also wearing a new look, and Yusuf, who was returned unopposed in March last year, explained why things are moving fast for the executive committee.
“The committee runs a democratic system that works. The Apapa Club is a small Nigeria, and we have to work round the clock to get the club this far. We are glad that the new effort geared at uplifting the status of the club has increased the membership base,†he said.
The executive committee of the club had earlier went on search for prospective sponsors for their numerous programmes listed early last year.
Yusuf and some committee members; Entertainment Secretary, Sam Okosun and Barrister Kofo Akingbola have been raising fund to rehabilitate the sports facilities in the club.
