Onigbongbo Ward F Football Team Chief Coach, Chinedu Ogbenna, has expressed delight, that his team played to instruction which made them win Arole Inter Ward Football Competition.
Onigbongbo Ward F humbled Ikeja Ward E Football Team 3-1 in the final played recently at the Agidingbi Technical College, Ikeja, Lagos State.
Ogbenna boasted that his team were more determined than their opponents to win the game. He also commended his team for their doggedness and fighting spirit exhibited throughout the encounter, saying that the victory was well deserved.
“It was a tough match for us but thank God that we won the encounter. We were a little bit jittery when they equalized in the first half but I told my players to calm down and played the ball on the ground. This helped us to score two goals in the second half,†he said.
Meanwhile, Ikeja Coach, Taiwo Adekunle,has blamed his players for losing focus in the second half.
He also complained about the officiating of the match which affected his team’s performance.
“I will take the defeat in good faith because our opponents utilised their chances well. But I am not really impressed with the officiating.But there is nothing I can do than to congratulate our opponents for the victory,†said Adekunle who vowed to win next edition.
Jayeola Gbenga, opened the scoring in the 15th minutes before Sunday Adebiyi cancelled the goal deficit via free kick in the 28th minutes to end the game in the first half
Gbenga and Jubril Omoboade were all Onigbongbo needed to confirm their supremacy over their opponents. Their goals in the second half ended the match 3-1.
Onigbongbo went home with the sum of N 100,000 and a giant trophy while Ikeja received N50,000 for the second position.
The sponsor, James Abiodun Faleke, who is contesting for Ikeja House of Representatives under the Action Congress of Nigeria ACN expressed satisfaction with the organisation and standard of play by the finalists.
He promised to sponsor the tournament annually.
