Para Soccer Players Ready For Promasidor Tourney

At least 80 players and 16 officials are expected to feature in the 4th Promasidor Easter Para Soccer Championship.

The tourney which will be held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos will begin tomorrow, Good Friday and ends on Easter Sunday.

According to the organiser of the grassroots tourney, Total Consult Nigeria Limited, all arrangements to hold a glamorous competition have been concluded.

“We are expecting a total of 80 players representing eight teams and 16 officials. The teams based outside Lagos have been arriving ahead of the three-day competition. They will be camped in hotels with adequate security during their stay for the tourney,” said Idowu George of Total Consult.

Matches for the competition will be played between 9a.m. and 6p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The two semi final games will hold on Saturday, while on Sunday, matches for the third place and the finals start from 12noon,” said chief coach of the Lagos State Paralympics Association, Femi Afolayan.

P.M.Sports gathered that the eight teams have been divided into two groups. In Group A are the defending champions, Lead United, New Afrikan Shrine Warriors sponsored by Yeni Kuti, the daughter of legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Other teams are Kwara Para Soccer Club and Avengers.

In Group B are last year’s runners up, Total Consult Terrors, Kaduna, Niger and Baba Mai Mangoro from Adamawa.

According to the organisers, a participating prize of N10, 000 each will be given to 10 players of each team. “Players in the team that will come first will get the sum of N20, 000 each. In the second position, players will get N15, 000 each, in the third position, they will get N12, 000 each, while in the fourth position, players will be given N10, 000 each apart from trophies, medals and certificate,” said George, who enjoined Lagosians to troop out en masse to the UNILAG to enjoy the best of para soccer actions courtesy of Promasidor Nigeria Limited.
