The much awaited Intercontinental Wrestling Championship tagged BRF Wrestlemania which is scheduled to hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, Nigeria will now be staged from 13-16 September.
P.M.Sports gathered that the Local Organising Committee, LOC of the tournament, which is being held to honour Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, arrived at the new date after due consultation with the Office of the Lagos State Governor in order to give Fashola time to witness the final of the championship.
The LOC headed by Primate Charles Odugbesi is working round the clock to ensure that the tournament, which will feature 14 Nigerian wrestlers and 10 foreigners, is held as planned.
Tournament Coordinator, Alhaji Hammed Mohammed, a former Afro-Asian wrestling champion, told P.M.Sports that while the bouts will start on 13 September, on the 15th has been reserved as a rest day, while the final will hold on 16 September.
“There won’t be any change in date this time around as we are working round the clock to make the tournament happens as planned. Members of the LOC are respected people in our society and the overall interest of everybody is to see the staging of a successful BRF Wrestlemania to the glory of our dear Governor Fashola,†he said.
Alhaji Mohammed revealed that four female wrestlers will be on parade during the tourney, tow local wrestlers and two foreigners. He disclosed that the LOC’s banker, Intercontinental Bank, has notified the foreign wrestlers of the new date and has requested for their data to ensure their smooth travelling to the country for the competition.
“We are on course and the tourney will be staged. One of the foreign wrestlers lined up for the competition, Kuwait’s Fuhad Shawas was reportedly injured and we have replaced him with another Asian wrestler, Kovak from Hong Kong. Others wrestlers coming to Nigeria or the fight are Scotland’s Martin Uhban, Chris Botherway from United Kingdom, Makia Camuron Dualer and Bambikiler from Austria. For that four days we will stage the tournament, Lagos and indeed Nigeria will shake,†said Mohammed.
