Olympic Taekwando: Nnaji Sure Of Tickets At Cairo Qualifiers

President of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, NTF, Jonathan Nnaji, has said that the morale in camp is high as Nigerian taekwondoists prepare for the London 2012 Olympics qualifiers in Egypt.

The NTF boss said that the Nigerian athletes are in high spirits and are prepared to do the country proud.

“We are in high spirits for the Olympics qualifiers in Egypt. The taekwondoists are going to do well at the games. The qualifiers is the only hope for the country to get slots at the London 2012 Olympic Games,” said Nnaji.

Nnaji said further that the federation has acquired enough equipment that will enhance the performance of the athletes in Egypt.

“We have acquired enough equipment that will enhance the performance of the athletes at the qualifiers. We, therefore, see no reason why they should not perform well at the qualifiers. They will surely win slots for the country in Egypt,” said Nnaji.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Federation, Chinedu Ezeala Ogundare, said that the Nigerian representatives arrived Cairo on Saturday ahead of the qualifiers which starts on 11-12 January.

Representing Nigeria at the Olympics qualifiers are 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medalist, Chika Chukwumerije, who will be competing in the 80kg category while All Africa Games bronze medalist, Issa Muhammad Adam, will be competing in the 68kg category.

The only Nigerian female athlete at the qualifiers is Joy Ekhator, who will be competing in the 49kg category.

The Olympics qualifiers in Egypt is an avenue for taekwondoists on the continent to book places at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
