Handball: U-18 National Tourney For Sokoto

The 2012 National U-18 Handball Championship, which was earlier scheduled to hold from 23 February through 4 March, will now be held from 19 through 29 April at Gingiya Stadium, Sokoto.

The tourney will feature male and female teams from the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. The grassroots competition is packaged by the Handball Federation of Nigeria, HFN, in conjunction with Sokoto State Government.

In a letter written to the Director of Sports of participating states, the Secretary General of HFN, Olusola Luke, disclosed that each state will provide accommodation, feeding, allowances and other logistics for their teams.

According to Luke, the states are also expected pay N15, 000 affiliation fee, N10, 000 registration fee and players and officials’ licences, which is N750 per player and N1, 000 per official.

The federation, in line with the modern trend in the game, has directed the states to ensure that 70 per cent of their players are not below 5 feet tall.
