4 poker players shot dead in Kano

Unidentified gun men at the week end invaded a fun spot at Gada, Kwanra Cashew in Panshekara, Kano, northwest Nigeria, Killing four persons.

While three died on the spot, the fourth person who was rushed to hospital later gave up the ghost.

The incident which occurred at 6 p.m. Saturday shortly after the visit of Vice President Namadi Sambo who came to Kano to condole with the family of the late Sheikh Mudi Salga has further heightened fear in the ancient city.

“We were on a fun spots playing poker when the men came on three motor bikes and started shooting at us. It was a great miracle that I survived without being hurt. They were three in number and escaped before security men arrived,” said a witness.

The Panshekara attack was the fourth of such violence since the ancient city of Kano came under attack 20 January.

However, no group has claimed responsibility for Saturday shooting.

Kano state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Tanimu Rilwan Dutse confirmed the attack: “we learnt that three people were shot dead by unknown gunmen Saturday evening at Filin Kashu relaxation spot at Gada, and that one other person sustained injury.”
