Awolowo Way, Others In 2nd Round

Awolowo Way team are  among the first set of teams that have advanced to the second round of  Season 5 of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship.

From Ifako Ijaiye Local Council, Awolowo Way including streets such as Oladosu, Olutoyese, J. O. Emmanuel, Oladejo, Aranse, Nationwide and Toba Oke at the weekend secured their places in the second stage of the money-spinning tournament.

From Oto Awori Local Council are S/2 Road All Stars and Peculiar Street. They have confirmed their spots in the next stage of the competition.

According to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), the first week of the tournament has been successful as matches were played at 24 venues across the five divisions of Lagos State.

With over 4,500 matches played in the first week, the LOC believes the twists and turns in the first weekend is an indication that 2012 edition will witnessed a new benchmark in terms of fair play, young generation players and improved standard of the game in all ramification.

Over 400 teams participated in the first weekend as venues such as the newly constructed Elegbata playground, Love Garden in Surulere, Alade playground Agbado Oke-Odo, Festac Grammar School, Maracana in Ajegunle and Epe Recreation Centre witnessed good turnout of fans as well as highly contested football matches.

This weekend, matches continue at 20 venues, while registered teams are implored to check and collect their licences at the secretariat at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Top two teams each group, which consists of five teams, are expected to progress to the next round of the championship.
