Secretary of Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, Ikana Mbora, has said that this year’s Port-Harcourt Open is not likely to hold this month as earlier announced.

In a chat with Tennis Special, the NTF Scribe said the federation has met with the sponsors but there was no concrete agreement on when the tournament would hold.

“We’re trying to work out something with the sponsors and the reason we’re yet to give any final notification is that we’re still working on the logistics with other modalities,” she said about the tournament which has been ‘rested’ for some years.

Mbora, however, said that the date for the annual Dala Hard Court tourney has been fixed, explaining that it is the only tournament, which has been confirmed by the federation.

“The one I’m certain about is the Dala tournament, which will come up between 16 through 24 November, 2012. It’s the only fixed tournament for now.”

The Dala and Port-Harcourt Opens will serve as alternative events for Nigerian players who have always clamoured for tournaments round the clock, after majority of them put up poor showings at the recently concluded Governor’s Cup Tennis Championship in Lagos.
