Neil Lennon on Thursday quit as manager of Celtic after a successful four years in charge of the Glasgow giants, his agent announced.

His agent, Martin Reilly, said: “Four years is a good spell to be manager of a club like Celtic but now Neil wants to look ahead to the next chapter of his career.” Celtic have won the Scottish title for the past three years.

The 42-year old former Northern Ireland international was Celtic captain under Gordan Strachan, taking over from Tony Mowbray as boss of the Hoops’ in March 2010.

Lennon took charge of the Glasgow club in 2010, leading them to three league titles and two Scottish Cups.

He also previously led Celtic to Champions League last 16, with a victory over Barcelona in November 2012 being his side’s most high-profile achievement.

However, he is believed to have been concerned that his present side would be unable to negotiate three rounds of qualifying next season.

Lennon has often expressed his desire to eventually manage in the Premier League in England and has been linked with the vacancies this summer at Norwich City and West Brom.
