Golden Eaglets lose to Morocco

Tochukwu Ogboji scored a second minute own goal to help Morocco beat Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets by a lone goal in the ongoing Under-17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algeria.

The Eaglets were in control of the match, missing chances to equalise in the match played in Constantine.

Abdullahi missed from close range, while on 29 minutes, the Eaglets won a freekick close to the Moroccan goal area, but the effort was blocked.

On 48 minutes, Nigerian goalkeeper, Richard Odoh made a brilliant save from Morocco’s freekick.

Favour Daniel missed from close range on 61 minutes, but the Eaglets kept fighting and attacking.

The Eaglets missed another chance again as Yahaya Lawali’s dangerous effort went inches off target.

The Nigerian sides, despite the pressure mounted on the Moroccans failed to score.

Lawali was named Man of the Match, despite the Nigerian side losing.

With the win, Morocco have now qualified for the quarter-final of the tournament while the Eaglets have to beat South Africa in their next match to stand a chance of qualifying.
