Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, widely known by his stage name Shallipopi, has opened up about how hardship influenced his decision to pursue a career in music.

The ‘Oba Pluto’ hitmaker made the revelation during a recent interview with Soundcity, where he also shared an unexpected detail about his public persona.

Despite frequently appearing with cigarettes in his pictures and music videos, Shallipopi disclosed that he doesn’t smoke, describing the cigarettes as merely aesthetic props.

“One thing that my fans don’t know about me is that I don’t smoke. It’s just aesthetics,” he said.

Speaking on what inspired his journey into music, Shallipopi cited the challenges of living in Nigeria as a driving force.

“What influences me to do music is hardship. You don’t want to go through hardship in this country,” he explained.
