The Oniru of Iruland, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties with the Nigerian Navy, describing the institution as a strategic ally in advancing national security and local development.
The monarch made this known during a courtesy visit to the Naval Dockyard Limited and the Naval Doctrine Command in Lagos on Tuesday as part of activities marking his fifth coronation anniversary.
Lawal praised the Navy’s intellectual leadership in shaping Nigeria’s maritime defence capabilities and expressed deep appreciation for its forward-thinking strategies that have kept the nation’s waterways secure.
“The Navy plays an indispensable role not just in safeguarding our maritime interests, but also in fostering stability and development in coastal communities like ours,” the monarch stated.
He noted that both the Naval Dockyard and Doctrine Command are critical national assets located within Iruland and emphasised their importance to his #LeGIT Vision (Let’s Grow Iruland Together), particularly in the areas of security, infrastructure, community engagement, and environmental sustainability.
Highlighting the shared history between the Iruland Palace and the Nigerian Navy, Lawal called for deeper collaboration and sustained partnership to ensure peace and prosperity across the Kingdom and the country.
“The presence of these naval institutions in Iruland is a point of pride. Beyond their operational excellence, they offer avenues for collaboration that align with our vision for inclusive growth and strategic security partnerships,” he said.
The Oniru concluded by commending the Navy’s ongoing efforts in developing doctrines, training frameworks, and strategic plans that enhance operational readiness and national defence.
