“No Rules, Just Timing” is a four-track EP that explores love, devotion, desire and the complexities of modern relationships through a blend of polished Afrobeats production and heartfelt songwriting. Released on the 30th April, 2026, and produced by DJ Screech, the project reflects the highs and lows of emotion while showcasing the producer’s creativity. Oluwafemi Michael Ojo popularly known as DJ Screech is a Nigerian music producer, and creative with evident years of experience.

The EP opens with “If I Ever,” a melodic Afrobeats offering with a surreal introduction that prepares listeners for the emotional journey of the song. The drums set the pace, and a rhythmic piano chord follows through. At the 0:19 mark after the vocal intro, the lead vocalist, Ade James, begins professing his love to his lover, and moments later, makes a deep promise, “Me I go walk you down the aisle.” In gentle words, pristine voice, and firm assured tone, the singer vows that he will never break Ohema’s heart, and if he does anything wrong, he’d pay the price.

The creative arrangement of the beat at about the 2:50 mark of the track heightens the dramatic atmosphere of the song as the snare’s hits are different, accompanied by the ad libs, and other elements of the percussion. This track, originally released on 18 November 2022, is co-produced by KOLAHNX, and Bolu Akin.

“Nobody,” the second track off the EP, saunters in gently with some piano chords so reflective. Ade James, the lead vocalist, once again, reassures his lover that she is still the one, and nobody else can take over her place. The recurring refrain, “Nobody, nobody, nobody but you” serves as an emotional anchor of the song, reinforcing its central message of unwavering commitment.

Around the 0:49 mark of the song, the dreamy guitar progression ushers in the next verse which creates a smooth transition that adds depth to the emotions conveyed on the track. This effect is also used at the 2:00 mark of the song, providing a meaningful sense of continuity. Apart from love, he also speaks about money, and special treats he promises to shower on his lover. It is shown that giving also appears to be his love language.

Another notable strength of the record is its seamless code-switching between English and Yoruba. Both flow naturally into one another, which adds to the beauty of the song as it also enriches the confession of this love. Co-produced by KOLAHNX, this track was also originally released on 16 January 2026, “Nobody” stands out for its production, warm vocal delivery, and cohesive arrangement.

The EP takes a thematic turn with “La Vida Loca,” the third track which swerves away from romance to materialism and self-interest. Co-produced by KOLAHNX, the song hops on the vibes with no time to waste. A short vocal intro builds up into a mellow-beat that expresses another theme on the EP. The chorus, “She wanna live la vida loca” portrays a lady who desires luxury, lavish spending, and an extravagant lifestyle, but wants to continue living like a leech.

“She con dey form Yemi my lover” is a line that reveals this deception the most, and her plans. While the first verse expresses love, and her lifestyle, the second verse spots an attachment to materialism and the spirit behind it.

The percussion is gentle, and the piano chords carry the track throughout. The introduction of the saxophone at some intervals of the track layers the beat, but also deepens the structure of the message. Ade James’s vocal delivery, complemented by ad-libs, further showcases the producer’s creativity. Although originally released on 15 March 2024, this track still stays fresh, and will always be because of its production. While the production keeps the listeners attentive throughout, the vocal narrative occasionally feels underexplored, leaving room for greater emotional and thematic development.

The EP closes with “Bio Bio,” a track co-produced by KOLAHNX, and Olawole-Kehinde Adesanya Kareem (KEHRIM). Unlike the preceding songs, this track opens with a different percussion; with a punchier kick, a crisp snare, accompanied by an electronic bell sound, and warm piano chords. At about the 0:12 mark after the vocal intro, the bass of the piano accompanied by the saxophone completes the beat and creates an effective introduction.

“Give me all your love o” is the first line of the track, and with this, DJ Screech the music producer, and also the lead vocalist here returns to the project’s romantic tone. This sound, mildly influenced by an ‘igbotic’ sound, especially the call-and-response, gives a distinctive sonic texture. The use of more African percussion would have made this part more reflective, even though the production is astute.

“I dey for you if you dey for me… I stand by you if you stand by me.” This line here shows how language is being mixed in the song. Pidgin and English are blended seamlessly, making the song more accessible while allowing him to express his emotions naturally. Originally released on 15 March 2024, this track also shows DJ Screech’s growth, not only as a producer, but also as a vocalist.

The EP, “No Rules, Just Timing” produced by DJ Screech highlights his creativity, emotional sensitivity, and growing artistic identity. Through a well-put-together production, thoughtful arrangements, and diverse themes, the EP reveals his growth and maturity as a music producer, and even an artist. Although the body of work could have benefited from more expansive songwriting and lyrical depth, the project’s creative production and arrangement reaffirm DJ Screech’s potential as one of the genre’s most promising producers.
