President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate rollout of a free healthcare initiative for low-income retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), describing the move as essential to protecting dignity and welfare in retirement.

The President also ordered the prompt implementation of overdue pension increases and the activation of a minimum pension guarantee, aimed at cushioning Nigeria’s most vulnerable pensioners under the CPS.

These directives followed a detailed briefing from the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, at the Presidential Villa.

Tinubu further instructed PenCom to urgently resolve the lingering pension concerns affecting police officers, stating that those who serve and protect the nation must retire with dignity and peace of mind.

Ms. Oloworaran briefed the President on ongoing efforts to safeguard pension fund value against inflation and macroeconomic pressures.

She also unveiled a plan to allow Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute in foreign currency, expanding the reach and inclusiveness of the pension system.

President Tinubu expressed full support for the reform agenda, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and robust protection for ordinary Nigerians.

The briefing included updates on several transformative pension reforms designed to enhance retiree welfare and deepen participation in Nigeria’s pension system.
