Abba Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared that no political party can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, delivering a sharp rebuke to his father’s party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking in Yola on Monday after picking up his APC membership card at Gwadabawa Ward, Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Abba said he was motivated by what he described as Tinubu’s “best economic and human reforms” and massive national development under his leadership.
“I want to make it very clear that nobody or any political party can stop President Bola Tinubu from returning to Aso Rock come 2027. Nigerians have seen his good work; he is not a tribalist, he don’t make appointments based on religion or region, but his decisions are purely on merit,” he said.
Abba urged Nigerians to mobilize support for Tinubu “beyond party affiliations” and criticized opposition aspirants indirectly, highlighting that “the president needs your support to continue with the good work.”
APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Adamawa Central, Alhaji Isa Bagalti, who handed over the membership card, described Abba’s defection as a clear sign that the APC is unbeatable in 2027. Alhaji Jamil Yusuf, a top APC chieftain in the state, went further, calling other presidential aspirants “wishful thinkers” lacking the credentials to challenge Tinubu.
Abba Atiku’s defection is particularly striking because his father, Atiku Abubakar, is a leading presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
