Arsenal moved further clear at the top of the Premier League table after defeating Sunderland 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to make it four straight wins in all competitions.

Martin Zubimendi gave the Gunners the breakthrough late in the first half before substitute Viktor Gyokeres struck twice in the second half to seal a comfortable victory for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The game started at a high tempo, with Arsenal nearly scoring inside the opening minute when Kai Havertz headed wide from Leandro Trossard’s cross. Sunderland, however, remained organised defensively and created moments of danger of their own in an evenly balanced first half.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 41st minute when Zubimendi fired a low shot off the post after receiving a pass from Trossard, handing Arsenal a deserved lead heading into the break.

Sunderland came out stronger in the second half and tested Arsenal’s defence, with goalkeeper David Raya forced into action to preserve the lead. But Arsenal regained control as Gyokeres, who came on as a substitute, doubled the advantage midway through the second half after finishing from a Kai Havertz assist.

The Swedish striker completed his brace deep into stoppage time, sliding home from close range following a quick counter-attack to put the result beyond doubt.

The win keeps Arsenal firmly in control at the top of the table, opening a significant gap over their closest challengers as they continue their push for the Premier League title.

Arsenal will now turn attention to their next league fixture away to Brentford before returning home to face Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.
