Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions suffered a significant setback on Wednesday evening as they were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium.

The Gunners, who entered the match as league leaders with a commanding advantage, appeared on course for a routine victory after taking a commanding 2-0 lead.

Bukayo Saka, fresh off signing a new long-term contract, opened the scoring early in the first half with a clinical finish to end a prolonged goal drought.

Piero HincapiƩ then doubled the advantage shortly after the restart, seemingly putting the game beyond doubt against a Wolves side struggling at the foot of the standings.

However, the hosts mounted a remarkable comeback. Hugo Bueno pulled one back around the hour mark, injecting belief into the home crowd.

In a frantic finale, stoppage-time chaos ensued as a late effort from debutant Tom Edozie deflected off Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori and into the net, resulting in an own goal that leveled the scores at 2-2 deep into added time.

The result represents a major blow for Mikel Arteta’s side in the tight race for the Premier League crown.

Arsenal had held a seven-point lead over second-placed Manchester City prior to kickoff, but the dropped points reduce that cushion to five, providing a timely boost to City’s title challenge with games still in hand for their rivals.

Wolves, meanwhile, claimed a valuable point in their battle against relegation. Despite their lowly position, the draw highlights their resilience and ability to punish lapses from top teams, offering a glimmer of hope in what has been a difficult campaign.

Arsenal will now look to regroup quickly, with the pressure intensifying as the season enters its decisive phase. Arteta’s men dominated possession and created chances throughout, but defensive lapses in the closing stages cost them dearly, underscoring the fine margins at the summit of English football.

The draw leaves Arsenal atop the table on 58 points from 27 games, but the manner of the result will sting as they aim to maintain their push for a first Premier League title in over two decades.
