AFN In The Dark Over Olympic Games’ Funds
President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Solomon Ogba, has disclosed that the federation has not been informed about the N350 million released by the government for the preparation of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The two-time former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Delta State said that he cannot make any comment on the issue since he has not been informed about the released funds.
“I can’t speculate on what I don’t know. I have not been informed about the funds and I don’t want to comment on what I don’t know. I am not in the position to speak about the funds at the moment,” said Ogba.
Meanwhile, the Director of Sports, Delta State Sports Commission, Amaju Pinnick, has condemned the time the funds was released.
“The funds should have been released earlier than now. The athletes that will represent the country at the games ought to have begun their training by now,” said Pinnick.
The Delta State Football Association chairman lamented that the country’s representatives can only prepare for a few months before the games.
“Athletes need a lot of time to prepare for the Olympic Games,” he said.
