Felix Agu returns from injury as Bremen sink Bochum

Super Eagles defender Felix Agu returned from injury as Werder Bremen defeated VfL Bochum 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Parkstadion in Zell am Ziller on Saturday.

The 26-year-old was named in Bremen’s starting line-up for the training camp encounter, making his first appearance since recovering from muscular problems that disrupted his pre-season preparations.

Agu had trained individually in the days preceding the match before being declared fit to play.

Erevbenagie opened the scoring for Bremen in the 42nd minute after connecting with a perfectly weighted pass from Olivier Deman. He rounded Bochum goalkeeper Timo Horn before directing the ball into the bottom corner.

Agu endured a physical contest on the left flank and was booked shortly after the restart following an altercation involving Alessandro Crimaldi and former Bremen player Manuel Mbom. Crimaldi and Mbom were also shown yellow cards.

The Nigerian completed his comeback without suffering any further injury problems before being substituted in the 48th minute.

Bremen head coach Daniel Thioune made a double substitution as part of efforts to manage Agu’s workload following his return.

Salim Musah sealed the victory in the 70th minute after winning and converting a penalty. He sent Horn the wrong way to give Bremen a 2-0 lead.

The result brought Bremen’s training camp in Austria to a successful conclusion, while Agu’s return provided another boost for the club ahead of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season.
