Dr Dawari George, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State who represented Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru federal Constituency in the House of Representative from 2011 to 2015, has resigned from the party.

Dawari George, until his shocking resignation, was the Chairman Peace and Reconciliation Committee of Rivers APC and a diehard ally of Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation and a leader of the party in the state.

He was a commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources during Amaechi’s administration as governor of Rivers State.

He was also one of the governorship aspirants who lost out when the 19 leaders of the party adopted Tonye Cole as the consensus candidate of APC for Rivers 2019 governorship election.

George resignation is contained in personal letter addressed to the Chairman,APC Ward 1,in Asari-Toru local government of Rivers State
Rivers State.

George in his letter of resignation of his membership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) reads:

“May I also thank the leadership of the party and all her members for the opportunity and support given to serve the state and the country in different capacities during my time in the party.

“I will always cherish the friendship and brotherhood which enforced our camaraderie in the party.

“Please accept the assurances of my best regards.”

Our Correspondent reports that there has been a swing in political mood among members of the party in Rivers since the alleged “imposition” of Tonye Cole as the governorship candidate of APC allegedly by Amaechi.

Though an open primary was also conducted won by Cole, some top members of the party still are aggrieved. It was believe that the grievance is behind the ongoing gale of resignation of the party by some of the top members.

Some party members also complained of poor leadership and the lack of “good reward system.”

Prominent chieftains who have so far dumped the party include: Hon. Golden Ben Chioma, former Leader of Rivers Assembly and a member of Senator Magnus Abe faction of APC, Comrade Celestine Akpobari, Marvin Yobana and now Dawari George.
