Africa Chess Tourney Enters Day 2

The 35th Nigerian Breweries International Chess Open Championship enters the second day today at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The tournament, which started two hours behind schedule due to the rain  in Lagos yesterday, is expected to be concluded on Sunday.

Players looked dejected in the hall as they waited patiently for the competition to commence after their accreditation.

The competition, which has been given a monetary boost of a total prize money of N1, 575,000 as against N890,000 last year by the sponsors, saw participants competing in the FIDE Section, Categories 1 and 2, Ladies, U-14 Boys and Girls.

Players who played in the first round that started late yesterday included the defending champion in the Masters, Bunmi Olape. He slugged it out with Efoagui Ogugua.
